George Crooks, Class of 1965 San Carlos High School's athletic program was blessed with an athlete of great proportions. George Crooks was a stalwart of the football and wrestling teams, and he carved an everlasting niche in the annals of San Carlos sports. George Crooks was not only remarkable because of his athletic skill. During his 4 year tenure as a San Carlos student, George also participated in his student body, and graduating class activities. George was president of the 1964-65 Lettermen's Club, and served as an officer in the San Carlos chapter of the California Scholarship Federation, an organization in which George is a life member. The ultimate tribute to George Crooks can be made by recalling his athletic achiev- ments: As a wrestler, George was a two-time S.P.A.L. champion. He set an enviable record which will stand as one of the greatest in league history. George pinned well over 80W of his opponents during his senior year. ln football, George was at his peak. He was an all-S.P.A.L. lineman on the 1962 Frosh-Soph team. His first year on the varsity saw him earning second team all-S.P.A.L. squad. As a senior, George again was prominent. During the season, George was named as the Sequoia District Athlete of the Week for the week of October 18-24, 1964. At sea- son's end, he was named to the first string all-S.P.A.L. team, and was elected the league's most valuable lineman. George was voted a Prep Scholarship Athlete for the 1964 Fall semester, and was also named to the all-Northern California football team. He was named to the Northern California High School Shrine team which would play in Los Angeles in August, 1965. The ultimate honor was given to George as he was named to the 1964 All- America High School football team. lf San Carlos High School never has another all-American, it can be content in know- ing that it has had George Crooks. He was the kind of athlete, and person, that does not need to be facsimiled.. He stood alone as a champion. 5-fa tn Dave McKay, Class of 1965. Dave McKay left his own mark, as an athlete, at San Carlos. Dave's skill as a football, soccer, and base- ball player earned his great respect in his own right. His ability was vindicated when he was named to the 1964 All-S.P.A.L. football team as an honorable mention defensive player. San Carlos could use more players with Dave McKay's ability. Any school could.
