A Iribule by Ruth Stirling '0 Mrs. Effie .Iane Lounsbury given a! the Memorial Assembly, February 27, 1952 As I was shaking hands, I looked up at the person to whom I had been introduced. She was very pleasant. And although Pm not ex- actly sure why-I immediately liked her. She was gracious, warm, and friendly, and seemed genuinely interested in me and in our con- versation. The talking was gradually turned toward the students and toward the activities of Valley College. She wanted to know what I thought would be the best way to keep the high standard of our school in relation to our community and my opinions on many other problems which we students face. After a few minutes she excused herself and joined a group of older friends, but I do not believe that I will ever forget the time I spent with her. Mrs. Lounsbury was a Vital, a living person, enthusiastic in wanting to help the students for she sincerely loved young pe0ple. She was always giving her support to the activities and the programs we planned. She was a very happy, smiling lady, happy because she continually was enlarging her horizons, and because she so enjoyed helping other people. Her humor and laughter were continuous and very contagious. She was always laughing at obstacles and situations at which most people would have certainly complained. To me, Mrs. Lounsbury was a living example of a line spirit and a true Christian. Now that she has left us, it is no wonder that we feel that we have lost an outstanding friend and a fine co-worker. Wait; that isn,t the way we should feel. We really haveift lost her. There really isnlt a vacancy left. Because of her vitality and her per- sonality, it just isnlt possible to have lost her. Her memory is still here-a great, kind, and loving memory. It will be perpetuated by the scholarship that is being set aside as a monument to all the good which she believed that we, the students contained and all the good which she knew that we could accomplish.
