Key-punching, record-tallying '59ers There's a school within a school on the San Bernar- dino l-ligh School campus. lt consists ofa building labeled B and some twenty teachers who have made a career out of teaching young '59ers to type, record letters, keep books, and how to behave in a modern office. Business majors find themselves becoming special- ists early in their school careers. By the time they are juniors, they find they're attending almost all of their classes in the school within the school. Business education is generally considered voca- tional. Like vocational shop courses, the business stu- dent takes the minimum program required of all students, This consists of physical education, a year of science or math, two years of English, drive: educaticn, ciid U. S. history and government. ....,..T -Q This course means that a business major is not admissible to a four-year college upon graduation. Still, many students leave San Bernardino High School to become business teachers. They do this by attending a junior college where they make up their college prep deficiencies before going on to a teacher training college. What happens to those who don't continue their college? They get jobs, and good ones, too. Most of San Berdoo's recommended graduates get jobs imme- diately upon graduation. Some even manage to get hired before graduation. A measure of the success of the business education program lies in the number of graduates placed. ln this respect, San Bernardino's little annex is a big success.
