M .. itil, 1 H 'fe H wwf The San Benito High School Choral Department consists of six separate choral groups. Tryouts were scheduled in the early fall and the best sixty-four voices were chosen to be in the select group known as the A Cappella Choir. A small ensemble of sixteen voices was also organized. This ensemble was called on to give several programs by itself. All members including freshmen who belong to the choir make up the Mixed Chorus. The other divisions ot the high school music department are Freshman Chorus, Girls' Chorus, and Boys' Chorus. This year the choir attended a Clinic in Weslaco and gave a night performance. Contest was also slated in Weslaco this spring. At Christmas the A Cappella Choir gave many holiday programs for clubs such as the Lions, Kiwanis, Culture, and Rotary Clubs. At the annual Christmas assembly, a concert was given by the entire choir, which was accompanied by the high school band. A small group from the choir competed in the All-State Tryouts held in Pharr. At the tryouts Paul Dunlap was chosen tenor alternate . As the hushed spectators watched the radiant new queen was crowned by the king. Joining the sovereigns in the place of honor were the class favorites. For the pleasure of the royal court a style show and program ofentertainment were presented ln all this entertainment Vanity Fair's theme of Island in Para- dise was carried out. After the royal presentation, a Coronation Ball was held at the Community Building. The evening's fun began with the Queen and King leading the first dance. At twelve o'clock the festivities ended and the night on the Is1and in Paradise was over. The thrill and ex- citement was over, but for those in the royal court a memory will linger always.
