Varsity Ties For Second The 1983 Varsity football team had a tremendous season this year. They finished second along with four other teams. For awhile the Balers were in a four-way tie for first place, but on their last home game of the season on a very muddy field, they lost to Palma. The loe dropped them from the championship bracket. Head coach Carrie Laine said, The significance of this year's team was that they were dedicated and played more like a team. This is the best season the team has had under the realms of Coach Laine. All MTAL player Gregg Serrano stated, I feel the reason we did so much better than the year's before is because we knew what we wanted, and we tried our very hardest to get it. This year's varsity has a lot to be proud of as they fought hard and worked long hours on and off the field. 1. Linebackers Ron Gong and Ken O'Connell made it tough on all running backs. 2.
