ARTISTS AWARDS Tech's Commercial Art Department, one of the most colorful shops in our school, is indispensable in Tech's public relations. All school activities - dances, ball games, plays, and club projects - are in the hands of these talented students. This year Tech's artists, along with the artists from other San Antonio schools, entered paintings in the art contest sponsored by the San Antonio Jptimist Club. First prize went to talented Andrew Qodriguezg honorable mention to Robert Rios, two Jf our top-notch commercial artists. f 1'- Commercial artists J oe Hernandez, Angelo Ca nt u, Joe Villanueva, and Alex Herrera work on pictorials for National Youth Ap- preciation Week put on by the Optimist Club. Designers Josie Perez, Esther Rodriguez, Rosario Pena, Tony Lopez, and J' oe Morales draw fashions. Artists Rosario Pena, Richard Hernandez, and Ronnie Rocha work on Junior Prom poster. 31

Seniors Joe Castillo and Ruben Gonzalez make blow pipes for the Edison dust col- lector System. Metal workers Joe Flores and Manuel De La Cruz work on racks for drawing boards to be used in other shops. To fit a metal door perfectly takes all the skill of F rank Flores and Paul Palacios. 30 IVIETALISTS SUPPLY NEEDS Whether it's aircraft work, body and fender repair, or any other phase of sheet metal work, our Sheet Metal Shop students are ready and well trained to do their job. Under the instruction of Mr. Lindsey, these young men acquire an understanding of metals, of layouts and blueprints. They help supply Tech's extra needs. They make our awnings, water buckets, and trash cans. Expert craftsmanship, desirable work habits, and accurate measurements are a must for the student.

WOODWOHHERS KEEP If it's to be made of wood, it's a job for our Cabinet Mill shop. Under the guiding hand of Mr. Alfred J. Fred- erick, this course offers excellent preliminary train- ing for the ambitious boy who is interested in Cabinet Mill work. Cabinet Mill experts David Con- treras, Louis Castano, andRau1 Moralez work on a storage chest, while Roland Sada, Sam- mie Belton, and Panciano Gar- cia finish a cabinet.
