1942 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Row I—Garth Parsons. President, first term: Mary Ruth McCoy. Vice-President, first term; President, second term; Robert Staewen, Vice-President, second term; Audrey La Nier. Secretary, first term. Row II—Joyce Sanderson, Secretary, second term; Ruth Knight, Treasurer, first term; Nell Kohlenburg. Treasurer, second term; Mildred Black, Reporter, first and second terms. Row III—William Casper, Parliamentarian, first and second terms; Don Smith, Sergeant-at-arms, first and second terms. HISTORY On September 25, 1939, the Sophomore Class, under the guidance of Mr. Planto and Mrs. Gossett as sponsors, launched their careers. The following officers were elected: Mary Durncll, president (she later resigned): Bobby White, vice-president: Audrey La Nier, secretary: Mary Ruth McCoy, treasurer; Garth Parsons, sergeant-at-arms; and Ruth Knight, reporter. The outstanding event of the year was the Sophomore picnic held at Brackenridge Park, May 13, 1940. In the fall of 1940 the Junior Class, after having learned to burn the mid-night oil, started the year with the following officers: Mary Ruth McCoy, president: Garth Parsons, vice-president; Audrey La Nier, secretary; Ruth Moxlley, treasurer; and Ruth Knight, reporter. The highlights of the junior year were: The Hollowe'en Barn Dance, the Sweetheart's Jamboree, and the Junior-Senior Prom. The Junior assembly closed the activities for this year. Cautiously, the class of '42 entered into its senior year. The officers for the last stages of the journey through high school were: Garth Parsons, president: Mary Ruth McCoy, vice-president; Audrey La Nier, secretary; and Ruth Knight, treasurer. Unfortunately Audrey La Nier and Ruth Knight left us at the mid-term. Joyce Sanderson and Nell Kohlenberg, respectively, assumed their duties. As with every other Senior class, there was much to do, both work and play, among which the following activitcs are worthy of mention: The Senior Play, Kid Day, The Senior Day, Luncheon and Theatre Party, Senior Prom, Baccalaureate Services and Graduation Exercises. Reminiscing, we realize that certain individuals should be commended for their work and their loyalty and cooperation. Albert Hillmeyer is an excellent example of the desire to develop the school in the field of radio; Audrey La Nier, Ruth Knight, and Mary Ruth McCoy, being efficient officers since the class has been in existence, have gained prominence elsewhere in the school. Since the R.O.T.C. is one of the most prominent organizations, we wish to commend Donod Smith and Leroy Cobb for having executed their positions as Lieutenant—Colonels efficiently. George Schroeders distinguished himself in the Glee Club by winning several medals. The Red Jackets were fortunate in having attractive Fauntell Cook as their president. Johnny Gavlick, President of the Student Council, earned for himself, besides a reputation as a cooperative presiding officer, many friends. Leonard Hipp-chcn continued to maintain the excellent standing that the Technician holds and has always held. Jimmy Dukes and Uriel Gonzales will be remembered for their outstanding athletic feats. There arc many others who are deserving of compliments; but space docs not permit our mentioning each one individually. In conclusion we wish to thank Mr. Planto and Mrs. Gossett for their sympathetic understanding and splendid cooperation. We hope that the members of this graduating class will live up to the unsurpassed examples set by them. Page 12
