X r - - - |lr O llip QIl]rBl| rp OII|pfbp ICtt rary nridg HISTORY: Organized in 1926 by Dr. Jane Baskin and modeled after Doctor Samuel Johnson ' s famous club, which met often at Ye Okie Cheshyre Cheese Inn. TRADITIONS: The Club programs center around the traditions that grew up with Doctor Johnson ' s club, and the customs followed in the London Inn are inspirations for the Club meetings. MEMBERSHIP: Girls who are especially interested in literature and other fine arts. SPONSORSHIP: Dr. Jane Feild Baskin, the founder, was its sponsor for twelve years. Following her death, January 20, 1938, the group met for the rest of the year at Miss Mamie McLean ' s home with Miss Nancy Lou McCollum, a charter mem- ber, as leader. In order to perpetuate the memory of the beloved sponsor in all activities, they struck the Ex from Ex-Cheeses so that all past and present members would be invited to the club meetings and would help to keep alive the traditions and ideals of the organization.
