Through their interces- sion God has shown us many times over the years that it is His will for the school to continue by supplying large sums of money to meet the debts. Financial Needs By demonstrating their faith in prayer the board members have eased the school's financial straits while upholding the foundation of the school. History Council Function Changes The student council changed the focal oint of their responsibility this ear Bom government to discipline. lfhe council members were nomi- nated by the faculty accordin to their academic record and Iieir school spirit and obedience to rules. The nominees were then voted into office by the student body. In view of the honor of their position, elected council members assumed the new name of Honor Council . The contest ran for six eeks, with a winner in each grade week. Each week the head- and teachers voted to give the Award to the one student who was the best qualified from the group of winners. After a delay caused by a breakdown in the bus, cars were obtained to cover the unusually large distance. The evening began with the ap- petizer at the Lauiy Taylor's home, followed by salad at the lVlcFee's, the main course at the Lancaster's, and dessert at the Jennings' home. Since hiking and camping are favorite pasttimes of the seniors, Big Bend was a natural choice. Highlights of the excursion, which lasted five days, included climbing Mt. Emory, horseback rid- 34 Big Bend Draws Senio ing to the Window Rock, a visit to Hot Springs, and short hikes to the Chisos Basin and Santo Elena can- yon. An unexpected opportunity developed for Frank Corte to be a Good Samaritan to a Chevy Blazer bogged down in mud. The still resilient seniors ended their trip at Boquillas Valley. 'U It t l l I ournalism Makes Headwa Not only did the journalism class begin the year by meeting deadlines, they also tackled the publishing of the school newspaper, The Lions Roar . This paper advanced through the year from being typed on carbon paper and run off on a ditto machine to being professionally printed at Kwik Kopy. Not only did the paper become neater, it became cheaper for the students. The dittoed papers sold for 15 cents a copy, but wit professional printing came adverti ing, and the paper, which now pai for itself, was passed out free o charge. This advertising was mad possible by the efforts of Mrs. Caro Lundy, who also initiated newspape articles from the Lower Schoo classes. I 1 Tammy Anderson Tammy Anderson, a native San Antonian who has lived here all her life, came to SACS her junior year. She played on the girls' basketball team that year and joined the pep squad in her senior year. Tammy used her writing talents in the jour- nalism class, where she served on the Overcomer,' staff Other activities included tutoring and substitute teaching in the Lower School. The only girl in the graduating class, Tammy plans to work her way through college, majoring in person- nel management. Jef f Coe Jeff has attended San Antonio Christian School since its inception. Fitting right into the school ac- tivities, ,leff entered the R. 0. T. C. and finished as a captain. In his sophomore, junior, and senior years, he was voted most courteous boy. As a junior, his class elected him their l president, and in his senior year he served as vice-president. ,leffs main interests are playing the piano and organ. A .A E?- Rick Cone As the valedictorian, Rick main- tained an A and B average through nearly all of his high school career, receiving certificates his freshman, sophomore, and senior years. In his sophomore year, Rick also received an award for the second highest Greek average. Rick played basket- ball for SACS his last three years and was very valuable as a center, and captain of the team in his senior year. Among his hobbies are canoeing, backpacking, and fishing. Rick has made future plans which might in- clude attending Bob Jones Univer- sity in the fall. O. T. C. He became a lst lieutenant in R. O. T. C. and also received three ribbons for sharp shooting. He was also in fencing for 2 112 years and won a school-wide championship in this. Frank was the basketball manager in his freshr and sophomore years, and worked on the OVERCOMER as photographer all four years. In senior year Frank took over as b ness manager for the OVE RCOM and as treasurer for the class 1977. joel Crawford Joel came to SACS his sophomore year, winning the second place in fencing and earning the rank of cap- tain in R. 0. T. C. that same year. Joel played in the band and with the varsity basketball team his sophomore and junior years. He was voted the friendliest boy his junior year and in his senior year, he partic- ipated in the racquetball club. Joel scored 1303 on the SAT, resulting in being offered scholar- ships by M. I. T., North Texas State U., and Oklahoma Christian College. .loel plans to attend U. T. S. A. this fall and possibly Texas Tech the following year. The egg was glued together, insured, and then mailed to the class after scientists had finished their studies Strange Egg Sparks Second Grade Friendship answered them. Further correspon- dence followed and the class had made a friend and gained a very strange-looking egg in the process. Since then the man, Mr. Daniel, has mailed the class several other eggs that are native of England, where Mr. Daniel lives in Houghton. with it.
