THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD SPEAKS After forty-five years at the old Academy, it behooves me to somehow take note of the lives that the lengthening shadows of almost half of a century must necessarily touch. To have been a part of so much growth and of so many lives is often awesome and occasionally even frightening because it is given to very very few to touch lives this closely in the years of greatest growth and development spiritually and physically. Also, it is not often that one can be a colleague of great men and an instruc- tor of still others who in their youthful fault finding were far from seeing their own greatness, but in whom you could see embodied those early seeds of the man which they would one day become. How often they fought against what they would do and be! Yet how marvelous is justice, destiny, and faith that these indwelling qualities are not to be denied! So often all that I have had has been that same intangible unexplainable feeling that this boy or that one would be only too well worth the time that individual praise, prodding, or paddling would take. The rewards of seeing so many become ministers, lawyers, doctors, bankers, teachers, and generally speaking successes in whatever fields they have entered have now combined to be my own somewhat selfish treasure which indeed makes these forty-five years seem well-spent. This year as I see those of you who comprise the graduating class of the class of 1966, I again share with you the hopes and enthusiasms of the past knowing that you, too, will succeed in fullest measure.
