XXX- 94-P494 The President's Message Throughout the past few months the atmosphere around the Academy has been somewhat charged with expectancy and Dame Rumor has found many happenings to make much grist for her mill. Finally we have hushed most of these rumors by placing in the hands of our parents and friends a brochure which outlines the basic elements of our first campaign for improving the school physically. I am happy to report that there is already in evidence a large amount of interest in the Academy of tomorrow. I could dwell for some time on the accomplishments of our students both individually and collectively for this and past years, but these things, though they may indeed be prologue, are not the laurels to be rested upon. Instead, we must view them in a perspective which makes them only the guideposts to spur all of us on to greater goals and new achievements. Excellence is something that many schools once hoped to find in their prospective students, whereas it is now an element demanded by them. This is particularly true of the schools that are grouped together as prep schools. This has built in the elementary and junior high school student and teacher a new and higher sense of values, but it has also created an ever changing sense of values. For what was a criteria for entrance in some schools just a year ago can no longer be considered for entrance next September. You may tell yourself that you know that last year's fifth graders or eighth graders didnit have to work as hard as you did this year. In most instances you are quite right in this belief because it is necessary each year to evaluate what has passed in order to meet the new demands of the future. This is not done to make life miserable for you as it seems to you at the moment, but it is rather to help you early to understand the importance of reaffirming your own faith in yourself and to keep you ever aware that in your life ahead you must be conscious of the major changes that occur so that you can meet the demands and be the person that we here want you to become. We readily admit our selfishness in respect to you for we have spent our time to both teach and preach those concepts that we feel will make of you the right thinking person we here want you to become. To those of you whom we see for the last time in our classes, God speed and God bless you. May we ever live up to you and you to us. PAGE 9
