949494 949494 The Chairman ofthe Board Speaks As the Chairman of the Board of the San Antonio Academy of Texas, I feel this has been a particularly gratifying year in terms of scholastic growth, but I am somewhat disappointed by the financial problems that beset an institution such as ours. In the past we have always been proud of the fact that we have included in our student body boys from all walks of life, from all economic areas, and from beyond our borders geographically. In the same vein, we have asked only that a boy have a belief in God and that he not feel embarrassed by his faith whatever it might be. His denomination has been as sacred to us as it was to him. Believing in these facets of our educational or moral philosophy has become increasingly more difficult financially for in order to do these many things tuition costs must remain in the area where many can afford to avail themselves of the service rather than a few. Without the help of a denomination or some foundation, the only hope of existence and continuation of these tenets must lie in the hands of those who will come forward to offer the assistance necessary. From the early interest that has come to light, it would appear that there are those that are definitely interested but much needs to be done. There has been much pleasure in my life that has come in dealing with boys and young men but I must confess that during the past two years I have returned to the teaching of one class of Latin each day and this has indeed been as enlightening to me as anything. I find myself anticipating the opportunity to share knowledge with them and to enjoy their daily progress in learning. It would appear that you are always a teacher regardless of what changes take place in position. As some thirty-one of you stand on the threshold of new opportunity in education with new fields to conquer, may I offer you my continuing hopes for success and the unswerving devotion that I have to the future for each of you. May you always be Academy men and live up to the standards that have been set for you here. PAGE 7
