For SAHS is a friendly school, and its 1,150 teachers and stu- dents offer you that many opportunities to form lasting friendships. In this section of your 1955 Westerner you will find all of these friends. . .as well as those extra special people you chose as favorites. Emerson wrote that friends are those with whom you may be sincere, before whom you may think aloud. You will find that the sincerity of many of these high school friendships will stand the stress of the years. 42 I , 3 , , L,- N 1 S' If K ,ezifff + r v 1' ,,.3 ' ,f 'I J ,, ,f 0.2,-f' H ,M- V ',I M 1, pNff'fQ..f ' T ff F' fffj f 14 E3 M -' uf 4 ,, M , gr ,,:.:j5,,,. .,,, Ljjf' 31 - WL .. ForWorking Together Even the most casual list of op- portunities offered by San Angelo High School would contain that alle important opportunity of working together. Opportunity to work together is found in clubs and class meetings as well as in classes. ln these organiza- tions SAHS students learn to respect the rights of others as well as the rudiments of parliamentary pro- cedure. Working together is one of the most effective means by which SAHS promotes good citizenship. Opportunity to work together on a religious basis is found in Christian Student Union. The complete respon- sibility of this organization is in the hands of students and everyone may participate. BOBCATS 27, BROWNWOOD 8 The Bobcat line made life miserable for the Brownwood Lions as San Angelo opened the 1954 grid season with a convincing 27 to 6 victory. Led by Tackles Gary McElroy and Bobby Smith, the Lions could muster no more than a 42- yard total overland. Marvin Lasater scored the initial Bobcat touchdown from 20 yards out, then shortly afterward raced 76 yards for the second Angelo sixcount. Pat Adams racked up the third through the line, and a pass from Iohnny Schwarts to Albert Baze accounted for the fourth and final counter. Bobby Smith kicked three extra points in three attempts, with Lasater missing on the fourth try. Brownwood's lone TD came on a pass, Chastain to Ellis, wean -vvvlh-MC' ' l W .W , A . K . ' . ,,.
