Their function lies in helping the individual pupil unravel his more knotty problems. Many a San Angelo High School student who just cou1dn't seem to get his homework or beat the tardy bell, or otherwise strayed off the beam was put on the right course through the friendly and sympathetic efforts of Miss Bierschwale and Mr. Beane. H

FRCM THE I init' To The Students: One of the first things a visitor notices when he enters a school is the attitude of the student body. The general at- mosphere-in the halls, in the classroom, and on the athletic fields-reflects the attitude of the students. I can, with all sincerity, say that the atmosphere created by you students is as wholesome as any that can be found in any part of the state. Visitors in our school never fail to mention the attitude they see and feel. Our hosts in neighbor- ing towns also send us reports that show the same fine spirit prevailing away from home. It is a great pleasure to work and be associated with the students of San Angelo High School. My best wishes to each of you! . May I also congratulate and express my appreciation to the members of the Westerner staff for making this issue of the yearbook possible.
