ml age To be preclse It was actually three years eleven months and eighteen days ago that a group of neatly attlred healthy lookmg young rookles paraded through the halls of Gompers looklng for room 428 Thls was the exploratory class for freshman who dldnt know what they wanted to be Mr Schlmel after sellmg us some second hand pots and pans told us we wanted to be englneers The next thing we knew we were sophomores and technlcal sopho mores at that' Some of our learned tutors were Mr Cformulab Mltchell and Mr CSm1th Brosb Sterllng We also met Mr Undremer 1n whose shop we learned to sharpen penclls ln a lathe and manlcure our finger nalls on a grlnder A dally experlence was bemg caught 1n the lunch room tlde Our boy General DeCesare generally dashed ahead to save a table for the twelve lucky boys who thus wouldnt have to eat on the Hoof It was Tullman who supplled us wlth the lunch passes As Junlors we encountered two teachers we were destmed never to forget Mr Trlebel fand hls llve wxre halrj and Mr Callahan who taught us how to wlnd armatures Glazer st1ll clalms that a Spllt phase motor hnt hlm and Sjoberg s hands are st1ll gomg ln clrcles Well we wound up that term Cjoke sont but not unt1l we had that memorable snow ball Fight or the Battle of the Tool Room m the Plpe and Cable Shop The slxth term flashed by faster than Gunther Moses domg the m1le Th1S was the term of condensers aerlals and resxstors All the radlos worked except for a few mlnor defects One was that they dldnt play Another phenomenon occurred when Francomono Spera and Confortls radlos plcked up only KWXZ from Rome My nerves are st1ll yumpmg from S ybold s chargmg and d1scharg1ng hls condensers We also dlscovered Franks where a Gomoers boy could slp h1s mld day bracer ln peace We slowly cllmbed the ladder of success some stumblmg and fallmg but we reached the Senxor year We m t M1ss Pertz and became famxllar wxth the law of smes cosmes and tangents We ran mto Mr Mltchell agam and studled advanced algebra At the races with Mr Bedell became a common occurrence The electlon created qulte a commotlon ln our class wlth Hmden and Glazer clalmmg Moses was votxng for Wallace because the latter had once been on the Squeedunk track team We survlved the A C torture chamber and soon were practlclng for graduatlon Chakmakjlan was st1ll glvmg 81 and Duncan went on wxth hrs weekly poll Are you golng to be an eng1neer7 But we knew these were the last days 1n Gompers The old debates between Lmardos and the Boys as to who was better st1ll went on but It was to end all too soon Graduatlon' No more frxendly arguments no more Jokes' Well we were out And as we left we reallzed the fun we had had and a lump came 1nto our throats We knew why too' Qumto Bludegrema 58 1 v v , . - v . , v y - . . . . , sa yu 1 s 1 Q v - - 1 . . , . . . . - v 1 v as as - - - v 1 v . . , ., . . v u ' . . .
