Wagon Wh eel We must have appeared much like the boys at the annex when we first entered Gompers We were frightened and bewildered besides being curious We soon became acqua1nted wxth some activities behmd Mr Sart1 and Mr Kroll ln Machlne Shop and got to be more on the ball 1n the fourth term w1th Mr Kovarik That was when some of the daring few ventured to Franks for lunch Then too Glserman gave his much dls puted theory of Klll or Be Kxlled durmg an auto theory lesson In the fifth term our group started an exploratory and radlcal ldea of Mr Maher s Thxs was to have llve auto IH B6 Wlth the capable super v1s1on of several teachers we accomplished close to nothing Many of us wondered whether Mr Wald and Mr Maher were d1sappo1nted nn us because after we left l1ve auto was dlscontlnued Stathls and Ryan were equally disappointed because they were under the lmpressxon that l1ve auto meant cars that could talk In the slxth term the group met Mr Schuhmacher and Mr Donaldson in Heat Treatment At thelr suggestlon Vassallo went fresh water fishing but all he caught was a cold Mr Dman llked to talk about h1s work especlally Wheeling West V1rg1n1a One day we had an exh1b1t1on of underwater welding wlth a wooden dectrode Hoffman was so fasclna ed he welded hrs house to C1ty Island Vega tr1ed to weld Cxocca to Cohen but Mr Olivet yelled to Splna You cant sleep ln my class and Splna dazedly replied If you d1dn t talk so loud I could' We entered our last year wlth Mr Undremer at the wheel I can st1ll remember the first shop talk he gave us Boys I don t want you to work too hard Accuracy IS secondary If you get your Job accurate to ten thousanths of an lnch I11 st1ll accept It We laughed at the Senlors then because they had to wear tles Cooney IS st1ll wlth us because he forgot to wear his one day Then came the day' Most of us were prepared We had brought our handkerchlefs Amen brought three and Bellon two Altxerl was trying to cheer Moscowltz but he just kept k1ck1ng the rookle he had found wander 1ng rn the halls Frlzler moaned 1n a corner and Levxne was releasing h1s pent up emotlons on Alamo who just stood there and replled Yeh m too' Kushner and Lander stood by thelr favorlte lathe moppmg up each other s tears Mr Undrelner dlstrlbuted the report cards There was sllence Then someone sm1led then others then all We were Seniors' It soon became a common slght to see the sllmlest of overalls adorned by the loudest tue ever created The Senlor hats arrlved and Lohbauer who had not ordered one spent the rest of the term gomg down to Mr Tupack to get the extra one One day we came to school knowmg that we no longer would collect any more grease from Mr Shefter s car It was graduatlon' School was over and we were amazed to dlscover that lt wasn t a relxef after all' Slmon Gzserman Carlo Bellon 26 u 1 - 1 s gg 99 ' ' !
