l'here's work to he done . 'llhat was one of the first statements to he made when a decision was reached. Gompers was to have it's first Year Book. lt all hegan one cold winter morning. A senior class was discussing the coming gradua- tion, when a hoy arose and pointed out the idea of having a Year Book. Before the day was over the idea sp1'ead like wild-fire. ln every senior class the prospects of a good Year Book were lacing discussed. Ahove thc roar and clamor, rose two teachers to take charge of this new project, Mr. Schur and Mr. Fisher. A staff had to he organized. The first week went hy with open discussions in the English class where each hoy had an opportunity to express his ideas and contrihute original work. It was amazing what a variety of talent was discovered. Artists, authors, poets, sports writers and photographers were plenti- ful, ln short order Mr. Sehur and Mr. Fisher selected the staff. Wlork on the Year Book was hegun. All kinds of material kept pouring in. After weeks of continuous toil the hook was finally put together. Special thanks go to our artists Shapiro, Korol, Sav- itch, Orhan, Sawitsky, Pezzullo and Yeager, Cohen, and the 803 hoys got the ads. Wilson, Wallace, Tietjen, Cosentino and many others helped put the sport news together. Villani did the superhuman job of going through 200 connpositions to weave to- gether the memoirs of a senior. Unexpected poets were found in the auto shops with Braun and Zabel. I To these and all the rest . . . Our sincerest apprecia- tloll . . . 3 s - is-t. 3 , Q

Wisdom is the First Cousin of Freedom and Freedom is the Glory of this Nation and its People tTlwnu' of a rm-cn! nmlion picturej Your graduation from our school marks the final important step in the course of formal education. With these graduation ceremonies, you are not completing your studies, you are only beginning. Formal education ceases and education in life and living begins. Never before have graduates of vocational schools been given greater opportunity to serve as defenders of our great Democracy than at the present time. Until to-day, your schooling has been designed primarily to teach you the basic principles of a vocation. Your moral obligation and civic duty will now be to diligently pursue and continue this training until you can qualify as a skilled mechanic - a master craftsman. However, specific training in a vocation - master craftsmen - is, in itself, not a sign of WISDOM, or its first cousin FREEDOM. lvith even greater eagerness you must seek to employ your Cod- given mental tools to be an honorable and law-abiding American citizen. You should strive to think for yourself, to have a high moral and men- tal attitude in serving the common good. Attend your Church regularly, have faith in yourself and fellow-Americans, and put your trust in God. lt is my earnest hope and sincere prayer, that each and every one of you, despite all adversities - by your study, knowledge, skill, at- tainment. understanding, and tolerance, may achieve true WISDOM, so that your generation will always cherish and perpetuate American Freedom, the GLORY of this NATION and its PEOPLE.
