A native of New London, Connecticut, LCO1? POREOA graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1954. He served as First Division Officer on USS CUSHlNO COO-7971 from July 19541 to July 1955. He next was Signal Officer and Fifth Oivision Officer on USS BOSTON CCAO-11 from October 1955 to AUQUS1 1957. Following this he served as Ooerations Officer aboard USS HOOKS COO-80411 from September 1957 to July 1959. After two years as a student at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, LCOR POREOA was Executive Officer on USS FENCH COER-3281 from August 1961 until August of the following year. His last duty before coming to USS SAMUEL B. FQOBER ' C ' ' ' TS was as Force Communications Officer on the staff of Commander, Cruiser Oestroyer Farce, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. im.. 1
