He will conduct you about the home of 300 proud SAMPSON sailors carrying out their multi- farious duties on board thefinest GuidedMissile Destroyer in the Fleet. SAM P, S, O'NlTE will share with you the multilingual pleasures ashore as he conducts you on visits I AM not going to fill this space with facts and figures about the Mediterranean Cruise. You were all there and know as well as I the statistics of this deploy- ment. Each of you has participated in a variety of activities, and hopefully this Cruise Book will help to perpetuate your memories. Personally, this cruise was one of the most satisfying experiences in my career. It was my privilege to lead a group of real professionals in the pursuit of U. S. objectives within the Mediterranean. SAMFSON faced many challenges these past four months. Your response to every to the ten ports of call between the second of May when we departed Norfolk, Virginia and our return. lt is the hope of your Cruise Staff that this tour with SAM P, S, O'NlTE will bring back fond memories of the 1967 MED Cruise during your many years of reminiscing, Tl-IE CRUISE BOOK STAFF situation - whether close aboard afiussian warship, performing Task Group opera- tions, assisting a needy organization, mak- ing friends for the U. S., or winning our second consecutive E - was consistently outstanding. You were instrumental in es- tablishing SAMPSON's reputation in the Sixth Fleet, and believe me it was an enviable reputation, attested by Commander Sixth Fleet, Commander Task Force Sixty and numerous other senior officers.
