This sales post has in- deed saved many a student as he rushed to buy some graph paper, pencils, or a pen. Students who operate the store this year should be proud of their service to the school. However, these young people, under Mr. Hyatt's leadership, did more than iust wait on customers. They kept the books in order and saw that the store had enough ofthe right supplies. Congratulations for a iob well done! Sammamish is fortunate to have a club whose aim is to develop initative and leadership along with serving the school and the surrounding com- munity. Examples ot this were seen in Key Club members cleaning the wing of Overlake Hospital and painting addresses on curbs. Miss Con- tribution was also organized and carried out by the Key Club. The success of the club can be contributed to officers: President Dave Oswald, Vice-president John Wise, Secretary Jim Wise, and Treasurer Steve Ernst.

Karen Hague, Dan Braudrick, Joel Hoag, Doug Colley, Mary Smetana, Gary Zerr, Carlyn Koch. Promoting safety throughout the school was the purpose of the Sammamish Safety council this year. Its thirteen mem- bers and their advisor Mr. Torgerson, President Laura Fletch- er, Vice-president Mike McDowell, and Treasurer Marion Callahan, worked hard to make this year a safe one at Sammamish. Monthly safety displays, a safety assembly, and car checks in the fall and spring were projects of the Council, making Sammamish youth safety-conscious both at school and away. In December 1962, the Student Court began operating. The court consisted of seven judges, two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores, senior presiding judge and a court clerk. The judges this year were Joel Hoag, presiding, Dan Braud- rick and Karen Hogue, seniors, Mary Smetana and Doug Colley, juniors, sophomores, Gary Zerr and Kathy McDevitt. The court recieved its cases by means of student references under the honor system. lt then passed on the case accord- ing to its jurisdiction. The Student Court and the honors system proved that youth is indeed interested in the reputation of its school.

The Girls' Recreation Council serves Sammamish High by pro- viding a wide variety of activities for the girls. The G.R.C. program is designed so that at least one activity is provided to interest every girl. Under the leadership of the two ad- visors, Miss Outzs and Mrs. Stephens, it has offered such activities as field hockey, volleyball, tennis, tumbling, bad- minton, softball, and basketball. The G.R.C. members repre- sented Sammamish at special event days at Federal Way, Foster, and Bothell. A G.R.C. service was to provide hungry spectators with pop- corn and candy at the home football and basketball games. Entertainment for the family was also a service of the G.R.C. The Father-Daughter Sports Night was a big success, and the advanced tumbling team performed at a basketball game. Birdland or volleyball? 91 190'
