DEBATE IDEAS Youth is active, youth is thoughtful, youth debates! Re- solved: The United States should adopt a policy of recipro- cal free trade with non-communist nations. That was the debate resolution for 1962-63. To argue this point, the debate team, under the excellent coaching of Mr. Val Foulbert, competed in many Kingo League contests including those at Western Washington College, Seattle Pacific College, University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University, and the N.F.L. tournament. Ask anyone in debate what he thinks of it, and an enthusiastic answer will undoubtably be received. This is because debate does so much for those who take it. lt is invaluable in gaining speaking ability, research ability, poise, and self-confidence. The lessons learned in debate remain with a student as an integral part of him, ready to be used when needed. The Debate Club at Sammamish is a relatively recent mem- ber of the National Forensic League. This is an honor and one well earned by our debate teams. Under the leader- ship of President Randy Morrison, Vice-president Bob Weler, Secretary Evie Gauthier and Treasurer John Steel, the de- baters work hard to uphold the club's motto: To promote the interest of interscholastic debate, oratory, and public speaking by creating a feeling of fellowship and by con- ferring honors.
