Youth is enthusiastic about work, play, and service. The girls' club ot Sammamish, Sig- nets, is dedicated to service without recognition. All the energy of youth has been em- ployed by the club in representing, working, and cheering tor our school. Red-coated Signets can be seen at all school functions - at the games, selling tickets and shouting the loudest, at the Senior tea for senior girls and their mothers, planning the Signet Tolo, and showing visitors around the school building. Signet has been advised in their activities by Miss Guldseth and Miss Ross. lt has been led by excellent officers: President Karen Hogue, Vice-president Laura Fletcher, Secre- tary Gail Beckwith, and Treasurer Pat Hanley. TOTEM TALKS OF SHS Youth is naturally interested in other youth and its activities. A school newspaper serves this purpose, TOTEM TALK, Sammamish's paper has maintained an excel- lent record in writing news for and about the school's students, faculty, and sur- rounding community. Every two weeks the TOTEM TALK staff, under the new leadership of advisor Miss Gaye McEachern and first semester editor Kathy Noland, has published news of First Semester Editor teachers and student activities, editorials by student leaders and the administra- tion, book reviews, class news, and student trends. The cost of publishing is paid by selling ads and also by program sales and a sock hop. Kathy Noland Since TOTEM TALK originated four years ago, it has gained recognition in the National Scholastic Press Association, and the Pacific Slope School Press. Through- out the year, staff members attended various press clinics to enlarge their knowl- edge of this important iournalistic field. ERVE QAMMAMISH What a place to lose a contact! Youth serving Sammamish is strongly evident in the work and achievements ot the Shield. With Mr. Dick Jenkins as advisor, and under the leadership of President Ron Pualani, Vice-president Craig Smoyer, Secretary-treasurer Jerry Owen, and Sergeant-at-arms Art Hyland, this organization followed out its purpose to serve Sammamish High in any way possible. Shield members set up chairsfand bleachers tor assemblies and sports contests at Sammamish, parked cars at all home games, pre- pared tor graduation ceremonies, teas, and meetings, worked in the administrative ottices, and carried out other proiects around the campus. Through these activities the Shield carried out its purpose ot service to Sammamish.
