With the completion of another school year, Sammamish High School passes another milestone in its growth as an educational institution. Additional fa- cilities, equipment, programs and personnel all indi- cate that expansion both physically, and, we hope, quality-wise is taking place. lt is, however, the stu- dents who attend our school who form the core around which all of the above rotate. The ability of this group to assume responsibility for their actions and to exer- cise control over each other indicates the degree of maturity attained. Their use of time, facilities, equip- ment and teacher's help determines to a large degree the quality of education they receive. Sammamish is fortunate to have as its foundation a group of young people who have exhibited the ability to cope with problems and to use to advantage the opportunities available to them. We hope that these qualities will continue to characterize the students of Sammamish High School in the unpredictable future. Mr. Fred Knoell, Principal THE HANDS TH Over a century ago William Channing wrote these immortal lines that seem most pertinent to high school students preparing to take their rightful place in tomorrow's world: To live content with small means, to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich, to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasion, hurry never, in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidclen and unconscious, grow up through the common - this is to be my symphony. As we stand on the threshold of a new and exciting age, it is imperative that knowledge be tempered with a sense of vaules if man is to survive. As each of you pass through the portals of your high school experience, may you develop your own symphony - one that calls you to unselfish service to your fellow man and a dedication to the eternal quest for truth. Nothing else will sustain us in a space age. Myron Ernst, Superintendent of Schools T

l Lf GUIDE YOUTH The ability to lead is too rare a quality, to be a good follower is probably iust as rare. An entire class that combines both is a standard not to be expected. But when it does happen, it is a delight. Its in- gredients are many - courage, persistance, perseverance, confidence, and many more. Basic, however, is an unselfishness, a desire to help others, but with humility. These qualities begin with youth and end only when the attitude of youth disappears. The Senior class is blessed with these qualities of youth. They leave a precious heritage, and one being learned by these left behind. Arnold Torgerson, Assistant Principal Senior Counselor.
