The game opened with Sammamish receiving. The ball was moved into Mercer Island territory, but was lost on a fumble. The Totems held, and the Islanders punted to the Sammamish 27, Ferguson was forced to punt again. The game seesawed back and forth, with drives that never got near the end zone. Once, in the third quarter, the Totems downed an Islander punt on their own five, but from then on into the fourth quarter, the Totems got no farther than the Islander's I4. There they lost the ball. intercepting a pass on the 48, they had only 45 seconds to go. One pass interference penalty, two incomplete passes, and a reception by Broetie brought Sammamish to the Islander 24 iust as the gun sounded. Standout of the game was Bob Ward who rushed 'IIO yards in I5 carries for more yardage than the Islanders gained all evening. SAMMAMISH 6, BELLEVUE 2'l The Totes took the kickoff and went for -I yard in three plays. After a long punt by Ferguson, Bellevue ran one play up the middle for a yard, and when the next play with the Totems defense pulled in, Stanford fired a long TD pass to MacDonald out in the open. Shinn kicked the extra point. After several more plays, Bellevue got the ball again, but Ward caught a blocked pass. The W-olverines got the ball, then, Ward re- covered another fumble on the Bell's 36. The Totes then went to the 26 and lost the ball on a fumble after two penalties. The half ended 7-0, Bellevue. Sammamish then kicked off and held for the three plays, Shinn kicked dead to the 20. On Sammamish's first play, Ward raced around right end 80 yards for a touchdown. Then Bellevue got the ball and drove to the Totem I4, but there they were held. The big Bellevue line iarred the ball loose to recover on the I5. From there Shinn crashed across in drives of 6,7, and 2 yards. In the fourth quarter, after Ferguson punted 48 yards, Shinn got an- other TD with runs of 'I2,I,3, and 48. Sammamish put on one last drive to the 33, but were thrown for an 8 yard loss, and the Bell's played out the clock.

SAMMAMISH 18, MOUNT Sl 0 Finally winni.ng their first game of the season, Totem gridsters trounced Mt. Si 18-O on our own turf. The offense continued to be a little shaky, but the defense was strong with Mt. Si gaining only 69 yards rushing. Sammamish received the first kickoff, and several first downs and fumbles later, Ferguson was back to punt and ran 19 yards just short of a first down. The Totes then held, and Reed pitched to Ward who ran 67 yards for a touchdown. After the kickoff, Mt. Si was held to minus yardage, while Dave Oswald blocked the punt and recovered on the Mt. Si 25. A penalty put the Totems in a 3rd and 14, with Dantini and Richards moving the ball to iust short of a first down. Mt. Si took to the air, but center Jack Playstead intercepted a third down pass on 25 and ran untouched for the TD. After the second half kickoff, Mt. Si was again unable to move. Ward ran the punt back to the Mt. Si 44. Ferguson ran 31 yards around the left end, Ward gained four, and Dantini 10, for a first down and goal to go on the six. Ward moved two more yards, then fullback Richards smashed through from 4 yards out. There was little scoring in the fourth quarter. SAMMAMISH 0, ISSAQUAH 20 Good luck for the Indians and misfortune for the Totems spelled a 20-0 shutout against Sammamish. The statistics were barely on Issaquah's side, and the high score was the result of the play in crucial situations. ln the first quarter with Sammamish receiving, lssaquah got the ball and drove to the Totem 17 with a 45 yard run by Adams. ln the sec- ond quarter, Sammamish held, managing to get the ball on their owfn 13. An off side penalty moved them halfway to the goal where they stayed to punt. They might as well have run it because Bill Haro received the ball and drove back to the ten. Two plays later, lssaquah was over. The Totems took the kickoff on the 22, driving it to the lssa- quah 22. A fourth down incomplete pass gave the ball back to the Indians. Then lssa- quah drove into Sammamish territory in a few plays, but the half ended. lin the second half, lssaquah receiving, the team drove to the 14 and passed into the end zone. Shortly thereafter, lssaquah intercepted a pass running it to the Totem 16. Several plays later, Haro ran 20 yards for the TD. Sammamish recovered several fumbles, but the game ended before they could score. -vw-Ms:,,,ws:.:wf2Ei?1:. ..
