The Latin Club was established during the T959-60 school year for the purposes ot build- ing interest in Latin and in academic achievement. To promote interest in the French language, its customs and culture was the French Club's main obiect ive for this year. Under the direction ot Miss Ruth Dulmage, Le Cercle Francais made this year a big success. At each ot the meetings, President Ruth Ruhlman, her concentrated on le other members. otficers, Cheryl Knowles, Carol Crowley, and Barbara Osborne arning to speak the French language in conversation with the Attractions at the meetings were visitors who were French or who had visited France including Mrs. Radach's slide presentation ot her European visit. Some of the numerous activities ot the club were a sock hop and a Christmas pro- gram in December. At the end of the year a banquet was held and served by a French waiter while the diners were required to speak French. Membership to the club was open to all those who had at least one semester language. ot French plus an avid interest in the French

TUNESTERS BRING MUSIC TO SAMMAMISH Throughout the halls of Sammamish the sounds ot the various music departments could be heard. These con- sisted ot the Sammamish choir, chorus and class en- sembles directed by Miss Virginia Barnett, and the school band and dance band directed by Mr. Herman Eickhotl. In December the choir, chorus, and ensembles made their first appearance at the annual Christmas assembly. The Junior Ensemble included, BOTTOM ROW: Janice Palmer, Sue Hill. SEC- OND ROW: Jan Jeffery, Norma Johnson, Marilyn Amundson. THIRD ROW: Cathy Summers, Helen Ron- nei. FOURTH ROW: Kathy Poole. NOT PICTURED: Peggy Harris. NOT PICTURED: Lynn Baxter, Carla Marcella, Sharon Gibson. band also shared its Christmas spirit with others in the area by playing Christmas carols at the shopping cen- ter. ln February the band participated in the band festival, and the choral groups entered other contests. These activities have been carried out under the leader- ship of Jim Walters, Rod Freed, and Dave Vlsauk, re- spective presidents ot the band, choir, and chorus. Sanders, Jim Roug, Lon Fairbrook, Bob Hinckley, THIRD ROW: Greg Broze, Sue Gamble, Pat Howland, Donna Pres- Ateneo Espanol, the first Spanish Club of Sammamish High, was formed last October under the council ot Mrs. Agustina Larzabal and Mr. Henry Tunes. The main pur- pose of the club was to further the understanding ot the Spanish culture and to aid the Spanish students in their comprehension of the language. Also, students were provided with an opportunity to share past experiences with each other. The business ot each meeting was con- ducted in English, but all other matters were conversed in Spanish. THIRD ROW: Donna McCauley, Nancy Invited guests showed sides and films of their travels and experiences in Spanish speaking countries. Talks and demonstrations highlighted these meetings. The main event of the year was the Spanish Fiesta where students dressed in native costumes with gay sombreros and serapes and ate typical Spanish food. This year's Spanish Club officers were Mike Clements, president, Carol Graft, vice-president, Terri Johnston, secretary, and Jeanie Lind, treasurer.
