To promote and sponsor recreational and sports activities for the girls of Sammamish High, the Recreation Council was formed with the assistance of Miss Dorothy Ann Outz. Nine- teen girls who had previously earned their R for izecne- ational participation in the Girls' Club were selected to be the charter members. Under the guidance of President Carlyn Koch, Vice President Bobbi Gunn, and Secretary- Treasurer Stacy Marlowe, the council planned the girls' sports agenda for the coming year. Activities of the year were the Father-Daughter Sports Night held in November and the Mother-Daughter Fun Night which took place in May. Three play days were also attended at other Kingco League schools, the first of which was sponsored in October by Lake Washington High School. Each of the girls was put in charge of promoting a sport and emphasizing its importance in creating better health, sportsmanship, and school spirit. The group as a whole worked to make known the significance of recreational activity in daily life and to provide a variety of activities to fill the interests and needs of all girls. The three F's of sports, fun, fitness, and friendship, were stressed in the Key, a newspaper put out by the' council and edited under the direction of Barbara McHarg. 73
