- To --H-1A.'1',f '. Paz L A' s . D I DR. GEORGE V. IRONS The 1974 ENTRE NOUS is dedicated to Dr. George Vernon Irons, a devoted friend of Samford students through the years. The following is a proclamation by students honoring Dr. Irons for his friendship: Whereas, Dr. George V. Irons has distinguished himself as a leader and educator of the highest Christian example for over forty years at Samford University, and Whereas, during those years he has capably served Samford University and its students as Distinguished Professor of History, Head of the History Department, and Chairman of the Division of Social Sciencesg and Whereas, under his dedicated leadership the History Department and Division of Social Sciences experienced unprecedented growth and prosperity which included increases in the number of students and faculty: and Whereas, Dr. Irons has long coordinated Samford Universitys presentation to the Freedoms Foundation resulting in fourteen George Washington Honor Medals for Americanism, as well as one presented to him for his patriotic work, and Whereas, Dr. Irons is an active member and deacon of the Southside Baptist Church, serving in many religious activities too numerous to name, and fn? Whereas, Dr. Irons has served his nation well and bravely as a Colonel during the Second World Warg and Whereas, scores of students have pointed to him as the primary stimulus for continuing their educational studies at the undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate levels, revealing the overwhelming impact which this warm and personal man has had on so many young people through the years, Therefore Be It Resolved, by students of Samford University and others of his friends, as well, that we express to him our grateful recognition for his achievements, our warmest affection, appreciation, and commendation for his highly distinguished and most effective leadership in all walks of life, and our love for him as a man and our friend.
