While the cultural value is emphasized the i courses are outlined to meet the basic needs of secondary schvol teachers, graduate students, and students planning to enter g such specialized fields as medicine, dentistry, home economics, medical technology, nursing, pharmacy, public health, physi- l cal education, etc. The Chemistry Department offers courses including those basic principles of chemistry necessary for scientific and l technical fields, such as medicine, engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, industrial and pure chemistry. It also gives adequate training to those students who plan to make their life's vocation in the field of religion. Howard offers many courses in Bible and religious education. Some of those offered are Church Leadership, History of Religion, Clinical Homiletics, and Bible Doctrines. There are many more which are valuable to college students. . Sf' extension division This department was created to meet ' y the need and the urgent demand across 'X the State of Alabama for facilities for training preachers and lay workers in the churches.
