MAJOR DAVIS Our President The year of 1952 marks the thirteenth year that Major Harwell G. Davis has faithfully served Howard College. His record is one that every student at Howard can be proud of. Major Davis received his L.L.B. degree at the University ot Alabama and was awarded an L.L.D. thereafter. He practiced law in Thomasville and Gadsden. He also served as Attorney General and U. S. Collector of Internal Revenue in Alabama. In July, 1939, as the nineteenth president Maior Davis Come to Howard College.

Qui' D an The story ot the service rendered to Howard College by Dean Percy P. Burns is indeed a long one. Dean Burns was born in Jernison, Alabama, the son ot a Baptist preacher. He graduated from Howard and earned his MA. degree at Harvard. He has done further study at the University ot Chicago and holds an honorary degree, Litt.D., from Mercer University. From l904 until l9ll Dean Burns taught English and Latin at the South Carolina Co-Educational Institute in Edgefield, S. C. ln the tall ot 1911 he came to Howard as acting professor ot English, and in l9l2 he was made professor and head of the department of English. He was also com- mandant of the Howard Cadets.
