Howard's I95I-52 basketball season turned out to be a success. The team was to face tough opposition including such teams as Auburn, Florida Southern, and Jacksonville State. Since the squad had lost several men by graduation too much was not expected. Starting slowly, the team began to click and wound up winning half of its twenty-two games. Two players dominated the squad. Morris Jacobs began to be called Mr, Howard at the end of the season. Joe Coon was a mainstay under the basket, Coon at center, Jacobs and Phil Powell at forward, and Larry Wilson and Tom Jefferson at guard turned out to be Howard's starting five for most of the season. Freshmen played a surprisingly large part in the season. Four boys were moved up from the B team, these were Vin- cent Gibson, Joe Brewer, Charles Hill, and Fred Wolfe. Sonny Roark saw some action at forward as did Charles Mullican at guard. Sweeping a two game series with B'ham Southern the Bull- dogs received the Omicron Delta Kappa trophy.
