'lx lf if X lluv ESI Harwell Davis, attorney-at-law. collector of internal revenue, attorney general of Alabama, newspaper publisher, ex-officio chairman of State Pardon lioard. Bond Commissioner of State of Alabama. Fuel Administrator. Grand Chancellor of Alabama Knights of Pythias, Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, Kapa Phi liapa, Major, 327th Infantry, Lt. Colonel, .l.A.G. of 31st Division, cited for gallantry in action, and many other varied activities-all of these have made him quite capable of filling the office of President of Howard College. lYhen Major Davis took over in July, 1939, the college owed over 3400,- 000--today the debt is only fi4l00,00lJ. with piospects of being liquidated before the end of this year. There have been other hardships but the Major has stayed i11 there and fought them. VX'e are indeed proud of Doctor Davis and salute him in his most difficult task of lifefthat of being president of our institution. fSl Major Davis
