'llhe understanding of his students comes from his varied activities of his oxvn college life. lVhile attending' the University ol- .-Xlabama, vvhere he received his ,'X.l3. and NM. degrees, he xvas a member of a social fraternity, captain of the track team, manager of the football team, president of the Y.M.C.A., member of the Glee Club and Associate-Editor of the Corrolla, college annual. Later he received his 'Iih.M. at the Seminary in Louisville and did further xvork at Columbia and lloston Universities. For his understanding, guidance, encouragement, forbearance and love, we dedicate this annual to him. lfll

Bond Commissioner of State of Alabama. Fuel Administrator. Grand Chancellor of Alabama Knights of Pythias, Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, Kapa Phi liapa, Major, 327th Infantry, Lt. Colonel, .l.A.G. of 31st Division, cited for gallantry in action, and many other varied activities-all of these have made him quite capable of filling the office of President of Howard College. lYhen Major Davis took over in July, 1939, the college owed over 3400,- 000--today the debt is only fi4l00,00lJ. with piospects of being liquidated before the end of this year. There have been other hardships but the Major has stayed i11 there and fought them. VX'e are indeed proud of Doctor Davis and salute him in his most difficult task of lifefthat of being president of our institution. fSl Major Davis
