ANNUAL STAFF IS THE NAME OF THE GAME The Statesman staff had a busy year meeting deadlines and waiting to move into the new journalism department. This summer,-lune 25-30, the staff attended yearbook camp at Texas A8fM. The theme for our dummy yearbook was Monopoly and a jail cell was made with miniature characters of each staff member placed inside. This won first place in table decoration. Other awards won were by Greg Meyer and Randy Adrian. Each won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the photo- graphy division. Robynn Frazier won 3rd place in Ads and Pat Salinas placed 2nd in faculty, New mem- bers were taught to crop pictures, draw layouts and to write interesting copies. Other activities at camp in- cluded pie, shaving cream, bean dip, shorts pulling and water balloon fights. The camp provided such ac- tivities as swimming, a softball game, and a barbeque. After a full week of Hragging out , it ended in a friendly pizza party and dance.

The Rifle Team practices marching backwards. CORPS COZVIPE T E The NIROTC Club had a very active year. It is divided into four different teams: Scimitar Drill Team, Rifle Team, Swamp Stomper Orienteering Club and the Color Guards. ln September, the drill team and color guards marched in the Pasadena Rodeo Parade, and in November, they won many awards in Beaumont. Officers included: Mike Basile, Commanding Officer, Teresa Odom, Executive Officer, Larry Peters, Operations Officer, Larry Carter, Weap- ons Officer, Doug Lovett, Administra- tion Officer, Nancy Withers, Supply Of- ficer, Greg Burkhalter, lst platoon Com- mander, lames Lawson, 2nd platoon, Robert lones, 3-rd platoon, Donna Payne, Rifle Team Commander, Scheryl Hadley, and Scherry Hadley, Color Guard Commanders, The sponsor of NIROTC is Chief Wilson. 275
