THE SPEAKER RANKS SEVENTH THE SPEAKER was published bi-weekly during the '78-'79 year in an effort to cover school events interesting to stu- dents, Besides being busy on the paper, the staff attended a few contests to test their abilities. In February they went to lournalism Day at San lacinto Collegeg Robert Blanchard was awarded third place for his sports feature and front page make-up. At the interscholastic League Press Conference loyce Horton was given two awards for her advertise- ments. She won second place for a con- tinuing advertisement compaign and third place for her one-shot advertising. Also at this state convention THE SPEAKER was ranked seventh in its divi- sion in the state. The UIL lournalism contest held many awards for the staff. Cindy Heep won first place feature writing and third place headline writ- ing. Cathy Cochran achieved fifth place editorial writing and Robert Blanchard received sixth place editorial writing.
