Events Art Commotion Is Expression Through Dance Dancers expressed varied themes and moods in the Art Commotion Dance Concert. Types of dances ranged from interpretive, ballet-like, to a 50’s Rock- Around- The Clock dance. The concert which took place May 5, 7, and 8, played to enthusiastic crowds. Extravaganza and Awareness Week Show Black Pride Black history and culture were displayed with pride during Black Awareness Week. Events during the week included seminars on ‘‘Blacks in Business’’ and ‘‘Black Women and the Working Field,’’ a concert given by the Soul Lifters, and the sixth annual Miss Afro Pageant. Also highlighting the week was the guest appearance by Jesse Owens, 1936 Olympics winner, who spoke on ‘‘Black Heritage in Today’s Aspect.”’ Individual talents were spotlighted in the Black Student Union's Extravaganza, as contestants competed for the $50 prize for best overall talent. (A) Some people celebrated Black Awareness Week at the Fox. (B) Carla Chambers beamed as she became the new Miss Afro. (C) Jesse Owens spoke to an attentive group on Black Awareness.
