SSI Sponsors Anything Goes A wild, wacky competition called Almost Anything Goes was held Sept. 20-21. Participants needed coordination, good hearing and luck to win. The Social Society of Independents Fraternity sponsors the contest annually. (A) The object of this Anything Goes event was to knock the oppo- nent off the tree trunk. . . into a pit of muddy water. (B) Team- mates directed from the sidelines in the pool event. (C) Group - coordination was often needed for success. Life 17

16 Life “3 ? ‘a , Oct. Means Rodeo Thousands of rodeo fans flocked to Huntsville in October to see the Texas Prison Rodeo. Prisoners from throughout the state provided a diversity of exhibits and shows with their art, music and rodeoing. The Texas Department of Correc- tions was in charge of the money-making project which ena- bles the inmates to pursue their talents while in prison. Many SHSU organizations worked for the prison by usher- ing, selling food and drinks, and parking cars. (A) Most of the rodeos were sell-outs, featuring country-western singers Dolly Parton, Mel Tillis and others. (B) Willie Craig, 1976 Texas Prison Rodeo bull-riding champion, attempted to defend his title.

18 Life Events Traditions Alive for Halloween Halloween was celebrated with dorm costume parties, a haunted house, and the LSC Halloween Happening. The LSC sponsored event took place on Oct. 28, featuring apple-bob- bing, pumpkin carving, costume judging, and a variety of booths. (A) Government Professor John Holcomb serves as a target for a booth at the Halloween Happening. (B) A student creates his own version of the Great Pumpkin. (C) A Halloween Happening contestant receives last-minute adjustments to his costume.
