No Place But | Huntsville At first glance Huntsville looks like the average East Texas | town. It serves as the county seat to Walker County and has | an old, but very respectable, business square. The town boasts several small, country cafes, many local shops and a lot of gas stations. But Huntsville is not typical. Sam Houston State makes up a large portion of the city’s | population. For this reason, Huntsville has more than its | share of apartments, discos, liquor stores and drive-in fast | food places. Not every East Texas town is the headquarters for the state’s | prison system either. The prison brings tourists in October for the rodeo and criminals daily. Pa Sam Houston Memorial Museum adds a historical facet to | the town. It features the museum, Steamboat House and Sam Houston's home. There is also a park with a pondinthe |) shape of Texas, complete with ducks and swans. No, Huntsville is not the typical town. There is so much to see that it takes most students their entire four years to dis- cover it all. Alcalde 9
