During Dr. LoWman's eighteen years of service to Sam Houston, the enrollment has more than tripled, and his activities in behalf ot the student body have led to the students 'coining the phrase, Great White Father , when referring to him. A Message From The President Dear Student: y During the session of l958-59, you and the other students on the campus ot Sam Houston State Teachers College have experienced the greatest building year in our history. Two and one-half million dollars are being spent for improve- ments on the academic campus, and a million and one-halt dollars are being expended for student housing, l might also call your attention to the tact that in l958-59 Sam llouston had the largest per cent oi student enrollment increase ot any state institution in Texas. lt is, thoretorc, fitting that the theme ot this year's ALCALDE be Progress at Sam Houston. You and your fellow students on the campus this year have made this progress possible. This letter is to tell you how much all of us who are permanently connected with the college appreciate tho opportunity oi serving you. We'll never torget youg We hope you never forget us.
