Read the Aegis! Patrouize our Advertisers All news older than 6 months! T H E A S Miss Weinberg Needs the Money! A Paper Published Occasionally by Sam H oustou High School Volume - 4th Dimension l Feb. 31, 1942 Number! Please? HECKER COPS CUP AT MEET Fred Hecker, football star, in one of the fastest dashes in athletic history, took a silver cup for Sam Houston. Unfortunately, he was over taken just about a block from the home of Miss Ma- rie Worrel and the cup was returned to the judges. Bet- ter luck next time, Hecker. The judges state that due to the extreme youthfulness of the offender, no charges will be brought. Why don't more of us take an interest in that fund to put a roof over the court? We need it, for how can we have pep meetings when the sun is shining? Bart B. Hiccups, racer, is an inspiration to us all. His talk, urging us to drive to kill, fills us with admiration for this great promoter of safety last. THE AEGIS Entered as low class pat- ter at the mailbox CMain 81 Capitolj, under suspicion. PEANUTS AND POP- CORN LOSE TO ESKIMO PIES IN CONTEST As the result of a vote taken today, Eskimo Pies instead of peanuts and pop- corn will be passed during the latter half of each period. This unique custom began two years ago, and has since become very popular, be- cause it diverts minds of students from boring lessons and is another way of getting money for putting a roof over the court. The change was brought about through the efforts of Miss Reveris Eaves, who can't stand pea- nuts and is in favor of va- riety in one's diet. GENEROUS CEDAR BAYOU CITIZEN DO- NATES SWIMMING POOL Miss Jewel McLean, wealthy rancher of Cedar Bayou, Tex., has donated to Sam Houston High School a beautiful gymnasium and swimming pool on the shady banks of the picturesque stream near her home. This gift satisfies one of the school 's greatest needs, and already several motor trips to the latest addition to the build- ing have been planned. THE TIGER GRIPES We watch with pride the valiant efforts of our stu- dents to keep the record for 'fmore and better gum chew- ers. Goose Creek will have to go some to beat Nell Howeth's latest mark-148 chews a minute. DOWN WITH LAWS! POPULAR SLOGAN OF MCANDREW Adrian McAndrew boldly threw this war cry to the four winds in a rousing cam- paign speech spoken on the corner of Milam and Con- gress late Tuesday. Since being president of the class of '27, McAndrew has been in favor of mob rule, and has long been the recognized leader of Socialistic forces in America. His motto is The public - God Bless 7em!7J COSMOS MAKES CON- TRIBUTION TO HOME FOR BLIND MICE After publication of this year's Cosmos, funds were left over to the amount of 5600. Advertisers were gen- erous and every member of the student body paid his dues. It is said that on hear- ing this piece of news, Mr. Moyes swooned. We wonder why, but old-timers state that once a long time ago, Mr. Moyes often had to stretch the nickles to get out a Cosmos. AUTHOR PRAISED FOR BOOK Charles Carlisle, noted au- thor, has received much praise for his recently re- leased novel called Why Couldn't He Leave Ladies Alone? It is dedicated lov- ingly to Aritus Wander. LOST AND FOUND Lost: One mind, in fair condition. Please return to Willard Shuart. Such as it was, he needs it. Found: Nothing yet. ' COSMETICS INDUSTRY ON BOOM, SAYS FORMER DEAN DURING RECENT INTERVIEW Mrs. Griffiths, dean of Sam Houston for a number of years, told the Aegis reporter that her cosmetics industry is bringing her a large income, and that she has never for a minute regretted giving up her place as dean to become a manufacturer. Her aim is to serve the high school girl by lowering prices on popular beauty artifices. We, Sam Houston students, are proud of Mrs. Griffiths' efforts in this field. C32 - - ..--.-.Q WIS 306
