uftlzemofz fonouot On the evening of Wednesday, january the twenty-sixth, the Athenian Debating Society staged their semi-annual Banquet at the Warwick Hotel. K The table was decorated with beautiful clusters of sweet-peas. A delicious five course dinner was served, after which several speeches were made, notably the farewell speech of the retiring president, Lorain Dickey, and the address of Travis Mc- Glasson, the newly elected president. After the dinner the guests adjourned to the ball room where they engaged in dancing. Football Ylonoe The football team, maids, and teams of the other city high schools were entertained on the evening of December the seventh with a f'Break Training Football Dance given at Ken- sington Hall by Miss Kathryn Nicholson, football sponsor of Sam Houston High. Confetti and serpentine added to the general confusion Cwhich was greatly due to the many Stags presentj. ,A X Mrs. Nicholson, mother of the sponsor, and Miss Weinberg chaperoned the dance. Although the dance was unusually successful-even for a dance-at length the clock struck twelve and, like Cinderella of old, the dancers realized that the time had come to steal away. Senior Y9z'om'o What picnic, be it a success or a failure, has not begun with much confusion? The Senior Picnic of the Mid-Winter class was no exception to the rule. At eight-thirty, Wednesday morning, January the twenty-sixth, the crowd gathered at the school and made the trip to Sylvan Beach, in cars Cwith but few serious mishapsj. Between the hour of arrival and the noon hour-this 1927 picnic again showed signs of being no exception to the rule of picnics-don't tell, but there wasn't a picnic until lunch was served. Was there ever a picnic that really began, until after the picnickers had eaten? Tut! Tut! Seniors? They behave like freshmen! At one-thirty the dance floor was ready. The 'fRythm Kings provided the music. Later in the evening the pirates, Martha Louise Long and Hal Cox QYou see they were giftoriansl, made their appearance and distributed the gifts. At five-thirty the seniors started for home ready to resume their would be dignity for graduation. Tlom or Senior lon' If coming events ,cast their shadows before the closing of the social season for 1927 at Old Central, excuse us, Sam Houston High, will be a wow. The committees on all the events have been working like beavers, and each one promises that their event will be the climax. It won't be long now until we have the senior dance at Kensington, with Lee's Owls 'n. everything. Wonder whom Adrian will take to this event? 'fAnd another thing, the banquet at the Warwick. Then we know something else that's going to happen -all the fun and good things to eat and do on the Sylvan Beach Picnic. We were relieved when we found that some of the seniors hadn't lost their minds-they were merely acting their parts for the senior play which will take place class night. Well, when all is said and done 1927 will pass out of the picture in a blaze of glory that will set a mark for all time to come, and will leave lots of pleasant memories for after years 325306 MED BSE

39635- l 9 , fazfketball Tame On the evening of March the tenth Miss Lallah Mae Burrows, Basket Ball Sponsor of HS. H. H. S. entertained the basket ball team and maids with a delightful dance at Kensington Hall. Mosses and pine lent an atmosphere of spring to the scene. The predominant color was green, which was carried out in the programmes and the favors. Mr. and Mrs. Ball, and Miss Weinberg chaperoned the dance. The personnel included some seventy-Eve couples drawn from the high school crowd. The Heights Basket Ball team was present as guest of honor of the occasion. All too soon the orchestra 4' tuned inn on HHome Sweet Home and most reluctantly did the guests bid farewell to the sponsor and the 1927 basket ball team. F: 25 G2-...-.- -SEQ
