An attendance of approxi- mately sixty people was served, The PTA also helped with the Open House and Dedi- cation of the new school by serving the six hundred guests present, A candy selling campaign which netted a clear 3150, OO has been the only money raising project so far this year, Further fund raising activities include a supper to be giv- en early this year. Soon after assuming his position, Mr. Psencik organized a band coun- cil. It consists of a boy and girl from each class. The council functions in conjunction with the director, officers and drum major to deal with any problems that arise. Cherokee Band The band was awarded a First Division rating at the Region Vl Marching Contest, which was held in Pearsall in December, 1959. This was the fifth consecutive First Division rating received by the band. The schedule of activities for the band varied as the year progressed. It included half-time performances at the football games, parades, several concerts and assem- blies. An activity most enjoyed by the band was the trip to the Buccaneer Days Band Festival in Corpus Christi. Clzerol-sees Squeeze by Eagles 12-8 Coming to the last district game with the district championship still undecided, the Cherokees came through again by bowling over the Eagles. At this time the Eagles had not lost a district game either. With the team at full strength the tribe won the right to represent l4AAA in Bi-District competition. Bi-District Spells Defeat 3 8-6 The Rattlers were a large, fired-up squad ready to dish out some of what they took a year ago at Alamo Stadium when the Cherokees defeated the Rattlers 12-O. The San Marcos team was off to a fast start with a seventy yard gallop on the first play. Ray Edwards broke loose on a 60 yard scoring run for the lone Cherokee score. Thus ending the 1959 season.
