8 Opening Section l ,f- . . . Houston's life in Texas began at the age of 14 when he lived with the Cherokee Indians. After these years, Houston left to return to his home state of Virginia. But, he had acquired a taste of the good life and soon returned to make Texas his home. The spirit of Sam Houston High School can be compared to the great spirit of Sam Hous- ton himself. He led the Texas Army to victory at San Jacinto to accomplish Texas independ- ence. Houston served twice as president of the Texas Repub- lic, and it is this spirit of loyalty that carries through our lifestyle today. Sam Texans stand proud, knowing that no matter how much people try to portray our image, SHHS will always have the true Texans. This is our year . . .
