,f As the Metroplex continued to grow, building and expan- sion became ever apparent features around the Sam Hous- ton campus. Each morning stu- dents were greeted with the rattle and roar of bulldozers, backhoes, and cranes. Mounds of upturned black dirt occupied the old field which had previously been host solely to the water tower. Once visible to passing traffic from Arkansas Lane, the front of the school now lay hidden by chimneys and housetops. But, the main focus of attention was the completion of the La Petite day care center which became Sam's first next door neighbor.
