U Never before in the 11 year history of Sam Houston High have we had such a tremendous football team. The team has not only made history at school but in the city of Arlington as well. For the first time ever, the varsity football team defeated two rival district teams, Grand Prairie and Arlington High, and also one non-district team, Denton, that in years past had always proven to be victorious. The squad went all the way to win district, bi-district, regional and quarterfinals, remaining undefeated until the Class AAAA state semifinals. Here they lost to John Tyler, the soon-to-be state champions. In order to give recognition for this accomplishment, the Cherokee staff hereby dedicates this annual to every player on the team.
