Sophomores were taught the basic rules of paragraph construction and grammar. juniors continued the grammar courses and began read- ing some of the great works of literature. A deeper study in literature, especially during the Elizabethan period, was taken up by Senior students. Those who excelled in English were placed in advanced classes and given harder and more detailed assignments.
