Bands Show Spirit Throughout Year This year was a working and learning one for the bands-and it was well worth the effort because each excelled to their fullest. The Symphonic Band traveled down the Oregon coast during their three day band tour hitting many schools along the way. In the Wilco League Band Contest they finished in 4th place-an outstanding showing. The Stage Band did an excellent job by placing 4th at the Wilco League Competition also, and taking a 2nd at Claskamas Community College at the State of Oregon State Band Contest. One of the exceptional band members, Sara Pearson, took first place on clarinet at District, and ranked a high third at the state level. Her outstanding playing earned her the honors of best woodwind instrumentalist during the awards assembly held at the end of the year. Others capturing awards were Doug Kleiber, for Percussion, who also competed for Barlow at the state solo contest, and Rich Monnie captured the coveted award of jazz Man of the Year . All the bands should be acknowledged for their hard work in striving for perfection. It is obvious that they reached their goal and will for many years to come. Stage Band 4TH ROW L TO R: D. CONCERT CHOIR Concert Choir Excels at Wilco Our l972-73 Concert Choir added spirit and enthusiasm in thier own way by singing to perfection at this year's Wilco League Choir Festival. Competing against 14 other choirs. they managed to score in the top five and continued their reputa- tion ot' being a fine choir. This year proved to be an exceptional one because everyone worked alittle harder striving for one goal. . .that is to sing to the choir's potential, lt is ohvious that they didjust that. With the theme Up, Up and Away forthe annual Spa-Getogether, the choir headed north for their three day choir tour. The destination was Seattle although they sang at many high schools along the way. lt proved to be a rewarding trip for everyone. This year consisted ol' extreme hard work, with a feeling ofunity formed. but it also proved to be a learning experience with many new friendships made. Mr. Barber is in deep concentration in the hopes of playing it just right.
