BOY'S TENNIS Tennis Season One of Learning We missed a winning season by only one game, recalled tennis coach Frank Surmeyer, about the 1973 season. And that 5 win 6 loss record would have been easily bolstered if not for the fact that we lost in mid-season the first doubles team of Tim Sommerville and Dan Strebin. At that time the team was 5-1 in league play. John Laxman was probably our best player, Surmeyer commented. As a result, John played first singles. Second singles was manned by Kevin Cassady. Bob Anderson and Dan Ledbury took over the first doubles position. Doug Klieber and Roger Yamashita were sec- ond. The sign of a great player is the a- bility to play up the net as John Lannen is shown doing here. EXC a Cassady wins the set with this swing ellence. ,W ,K gm., at A gf fE1Y f. GIRLS TENNIS First Year ana' It Was a Good Year This was the first year for Barlorw's new tennis courts and the first time to be represented by an eager girls tennis team. The coach was proud of the girls and their endless efforts to do their best. The team did great even though the majority of its players were beginners. Fortunately, seventeen out of the nine- teen girls will return for an even better season along with some new beginners next year. Thanks and congratulations to the first girls tennis team Barlow has ever had. Gotcha!
