Speech, Drama Excell .-D Barlow was privileged this year to have two of the most 3 talented organizations in Oregon. Q The Drama Club filled the year with such activities as three plays, a series of one act skits, and a handicraft sale. In the Oregon Thespian convention and Wilco Drama Festival the dramatists showed their mettle by capturing two trophies. Esperantus demonstrated the Bruin might to Oregon this Q8 year as it filled Barlow's trophy case with hardware. Success Q in every event all year culminated with Art May winning 'E first place at State in Radio Commentary and he and Mike E Q- Drama Lubrecht placing second in State in debate. As a community service, the club set up a grade school tournament to expose va incoming Bruins to Barlow's forensics program. LU At the conclusion of the year Art was named Outstanding Speaker and Mike was named Most Dedicated Speaker. 1970-71 officers for the drama club were: Bill Baker, president, Pattie Wrede, vice-president: Laurie Duncan, secretary, Linda O'Brien, treasurer. Esperantus executive council included: Bill Grashorn, president: Art May, vice-president: Becky Taylor, secretary: Amy Mishima,, treasurer, Kevin House, parliamentarian. FN l. Barlow's top debate team, Lubrecht and May, display assorted paraphenalia gleaned at tournaments throughout the year. In addition to taking second place in Cross X debate at State, the two were named, respectively, Most Dedicated Speaker and Most Outstanding Speaker. 2. ROW l: Bob Fornoff, Don Denbo, Art May, Kevin House, Mike Clark, Curt Norquist, Mike Calcagno. ROW 2: Lisa Kang, Carol Barney, Debbie Davis, Diane Yamashita, Debbie Parrish, Amy Mishima, Cathy Coffey, Laurie Duncan, Nadine Wagner, Karen Lagging, Cathy Baudoin. ROW 3: Debbie Roser, Donna Brown, Mr. Tom Robinson, Debbie Pemberton, Pattie Wrede. ROW 4: .loc lerulli, Chris Brauer, Joe Bushue, Bill Baker, Mike Moore. 3. Esperantus members included: ROW l: Art May, Becky Taylor, Bill Grashorn, Amy Mishima, Dale Latham. ROW 2: Mike Calcagno, Mike Lubrecht, Stan Sakauye, Steve Slayton , Debbie Roser, Terri Klobas, Jane Lehman, Delyn Leathers. ROW 3: Daryle Broadsword, Susan Fawver, John Williams, Susan Ford, Bill Baker, Bob Buroker, Kevin House, Lamont Gessford. 4. Speech Squad members relax, displaying an incredible amount ofintellectual activity. 84
