Band Pursues Perfection Continuing to display talent, the pep band entertained at football and basketball games, while the concert band placed second in the Wilco League, played at the Christmas Concert, Spring program, and district band concert, ending the year with a four day trip to the Oregon Caves and Crescent City, California. The Barlow stage band garnered first place in the Wilco League festival, played at Trailblazer games, took third place in competition at Clark College, fourth place at the University of Port- land, played at the Parents' Dance, and at Clacka- mas High School's prom. Individually honored were Jim Moore, Sandy Ross CState Solo and ensemble first place win- nersj, Becca Powers, Don Denbo, Jim Moore QAll Northwestj, Kaarre Bothum, Don Denbo, Sandy Ross, .lim Moore tMusic in Mayj, and the sax quartet received letters of Commendation from governor Tom McCall. l. Tuba and Steve Caddy hit it off well as you can see by this intimate pose. 2. Flute players Julie Wiley, Anne Shull and Carol Hughes concentrate on producing a melo- dious sound. 3. The Stageband astounds and thrills Barlow students with a hot jazz fest in the courtyard. 4. Most outstanding woodwind player Sandy Ross performs the con- certo which won her Erst place at the State Solo Contest. 5. Waves and sunbathers appeal to beach bums Charles Bolton, Rob Monnie, and Wayne Kim. 6. Saxophone players spontaneously re-compose music through difficult passages. 7. Sara Pearson and Sandy Ross demonstrate the earnest- ness and forthrightness employed by band members during practice. 8. The renowned Sax Quartet-stars of stage and screen-give a terrific performance at the Spring Concert.

Band-continued l. Brass section, known for its loud mouths and windy ways, produces a solid sound with or without instruments. 2. Popularly elected Jazz Man of the Year, Don Denbo, lives up to the title with an ad lib solo in Reflections. 3.
