6 Team Works Hard Barlow's '71 varsity baseball team was average accord- 4 ing to records, but was a real winner in bringing respect E to the school. The team, under the line coaching of Dale Stebbins, represented Barlow in 30 games over a period of '4 two months, averaging about one game every other day. W After a fairly disappointing pre-season, the Bruins started 3 off league play in fine style. Early in the season the Bar- g low baseball squad looked like it would be fighting for the N league championship, but later cooled off and settled to an 8-8 record in league play. Overall the Bruins won 14 games and lost I6. The season was highlighted when two Barlow players were voted first team all-league, and two more received honorable mention. Later on Bruin pitcher Jim Payne was named to the all-state team, an honor of con- siderable degree. .I .V. Baseball Frustrating Year Existing under the shadow of the varsity baseball team proved to be a disappointing experience for the J.V. hardballers even though they gave, as Coach Robert Moeller put it, ZOO per cent. The team im- proved tremendously from the beginning for the year, and the Coach cited several for their outstand- ing performances: Steve Arden, pitcher, and Dave Taylor, catcher, plus Bill Johnson and Bill Stevens who played well in the outfield and infield. Roy Bridgeman led the team in hitting with a .362 batting average. It was frustrating when you look at it from a win-loss standpoint, someone wrote on the records, but we had ... fun ...! riffs 3 J.V. team, below, includes: ROW l: D.Taylor, S.Groskopf, B.Stevens, P.Henneman, D.Lein, R.Drapeau.
